Full description
The decision to build the Ugine-Aciers stainless steel plant west of Marseille was taken in 1971. The plant was originally built as “Steelworks B” of the giant SOLLAC-Solmer (now ArcelorMittal Fos-sur-Mer) integrated plant in the immediate vicinity.
The first tapping of the 100 t U.H.P electric arc furnace took place in 1973. The cast ingots are further processed at the bar rolling mill and the wire mill.
After 1999, the works were successively driven by Severstal, Lucchini, Schmolz+Bickenbach and finally Swiss Steel since 2022.
