Giuseppe Bertoli starts his first iron and steel business by setting up a small workshop for metalworking and establishes Officine Bertoli. ABS was born in 1988 from the merger of two highly experienced and highly qualified steel mills, “le Officine Bertoli” founded in 1813 and “Safau”, whose origins date back to 1934.
In 2001 The Luna in-line rolling plant makes its debut, significantly reducing production times. In 2007 A semi-finished product with the world’s largest section is cast. It is a real record: 850 mm and a large production capacity. ABS is the steelmaking division of the Danieli Group.
Danieli presents the largest wire rod mill in the world

production line , created by the Danieli group at Abs, Acciaierie Bertoli Safau Spa.

Full description
The tradition of steel making and shaping in Udine region dates back to 1813 when industrialist Giuseppe Bertoli founded his first steel foundry listed as “Officine Bertoli”.
In 1934 new mill is established on neighbouring grouds, “Società per Azioni Ferriere & Acciaierie di Udine”, commonly known as “SAFAU”.
In 1998 both plants are merged into “Acciaierie Bertoli Safau” and became part of Danieli Group.
100 ton electric arc furnace Danarc was put in operation in 1997. Continuous casting and rolling line “Luna” was commissioned in 2001.
Today Bertoli Safau steel plant belongs among the most progressive and important steel producers in Italy.
