The world´s largest closed electric arc furnace of its kind (based on freeze-lining technology) is located in the port site of Grande-Synthe industrial district at the suburbs of Dunkerque.

With its output of 102 MWA, it was put into operation together with the construction of the plant in 1991 and is used for melting of manganese metal.

The foundry is part of the Ferroglobe group since 2018.
