Zabrze

Koksowniajadwiga Zabrze

It is not only the oldest existing coking plant in Poland, but also one of the oldest in the world. When it was founded in 1884 - as part of the Borsig concern - Poland was not on the maps, and Zabrze belonged to the German Empire.

A coke production plant launched in 1884 at the Borsig Steelworks in Zabrze.
He survived two world wars. During the first and in the following years, until 1929, the production capacity of the coking plant was 750 tons of coke per day.

The most important investments carried out in the years 2003-2008 include: repair of the gas tank, overhaul of the extinguishing tower, pipeline repair of the coke oven battery, replacement of receivers on the coke oven battery, construction of an innovative, biological wastewater treatment plant, construction of modern tar and benzene loading stations, and launching monitoring benzol. The plant has been exporting coke mainly to the Austrian, Slovak and German markets for 30 years. The offer includes low phosphorus coke and broken coke.

Full description

Jadwiga coke plant is very well established coke producer on the polish coke market. The plant was built in 1884 right next to the Albert colliery which is today remembered only by a concrete cover above the demolished pit.

The plant was working with two coal batteries right from the beginning (of course technologically modified during the years). A significant change was made in 1988 when the second battery was shut down and demolished few years later together with the coal bunker as well.

Today the coke plant is still active and part of JSW group.
