Metalfer Ltd. has been established in Serbia in 2002 in order to develop the Group’s operations in the Balkans. Ever since, the company grew to become one of the major steel and mining players in the region.
In 2008 the Group has built Metalfer Steel Mill Ltd. in Serbia, taking advantage of being the only local producer of steel reinforcing bars at the transport hub of the Western Balkans in town of Sremska Mitrovica.

There are only two steel mills in Serbia, Metalfer is one of them.
Established by Sirmium Steel (merger of Metalfer and italian STG company) in 2008 on the outskirts of Sremska Mitrovica near Croatian border, the Metalfer Steel mill belongs among the most modern and efficient steel making facilities in Balkan.
The steel plant consists of one 65 tonnes EAF, ladle furnace and continuous caster. The rebar rolling mill built by Danieli and Morgårdshammar AB was put into operation in 2020.
